As an Animal Technician, you will care for animals in the barrier operation that produces rabbits, including animal care, production and selection for customer orders, building maintenance, and strict SOP compliance. You will also be responsible for monitoring animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and you will help to maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance:



  • Feed animals on a daily basis
  • Rabbit production: breed, identify and retain breeder candidates, check nest boxes, palpate, hang nest boxes, push in nest boxes, take down nest boxes, foster, wean, and bleed, dip plastics
  • Maintain animal stock: feed, wash cages, dump pans or tubs, check automatic watering, identify health issues, consolidate, dip plastics
  • Set up orders by age or weight for all shipments
  • Identify and confirm client requirements
  • Be aware of compliance issues and report as needed.
  • Do laundry to maintain personal hygiene
  • Responsible for sanitation of the animal buildings, cages or tubs, and support areas
  • Overtime and weekend work as required.
  • Mandatory immunizations and screening as required.
  • AALAS Certification or eligibility preferred
  • Showering into barrier and changing into scrubs
  • Work may require PPE (personal protective equipment)



    The minimum education, experience and qualifications for the Animal Technician position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Ability to accurately read, record, and communicate information
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, squatting and lifting
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to quality care of laboratory animals
  • Experience in pet stores, animal labs, farms, kennels, breeders, veterinary clinics, or other environments where exposure to animals was a part of the daily responsibilities is a PLUS.
