Position Description
RAND Health (www.rand.org/health) furthers RAND's mission of helping improve policy and decision-making through research and analysis. RAND seeks experienced researchers with knowledge, skills, and practical experience in international health policy to conduct research on a wide array of international and global health issues. Project methodologies include case studies, quantitative and qualitative policy analysis, system and program evaluations, surveys, and other approaches for assessing public health preparedness and related areas of health security.

RAND researchers work in multidisciplinary teams that include economists, psychologists, sociologists, political scientists, epidemiologists, public health specialists, physicians and other medical professionals. RAND has conducted health-related research in Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Qatar, the United Kingdom, Macedonia, Guatemala, Mexico, and other areas throughout the world. In some cases, RAND is using its research base and expertise to advise health care reform initiatives and their implementation. RAND Health is seeking to hire an International Health
Qualifications
All research positions at RAND require excellent analytic skills; the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing; the ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team; and a strong commitment to RAND's core values of quality and objectivity. In addition, senior research positions require the ability to mentor and develop junior staff members, lead and direct multidisciplinary teams, set project standards and monitor progress, and communicate interim and final results to the RAND community and to policymaking audiences.

Successful candidates will possess analytic skills needed to apply rigorous, empirical research designs, develop models, and conduct exercises and evaluations to analyze issues related to the epidemiology and transmission of infectious diseases, crisis response, risk communication, mental health, health program effectiveness, health care organization and financing, and health system reforms.

- 5-10 years experience, including international health experience
- Solid quantitative methodological skills; qualitative skills a plus
- Genuine interest in conducting research on emerging international health policy issues
- Interest in leading and participating in interdisciplinary research teams
- Strong record of peer-reviewed publications
- Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships; demonstrated
international client relations a plus
- Candidates must have strong research training and a successful record of international
health research, combined with practical international health experience
- Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative research skills and an ability to work effectively in
other cultures is required
- Fluency in languages other than English is highly valued.
Education Requirements
Ph.D. in health services research, health economics, public health, epidemiology, health policy, sociology, psychology, anthropology, or other related discipline; or an MD with research experience in relevant areas.
