Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE
Serve as a technical expert at the facility, ensuring the facility is running at peak efficiency through strong preventative maintenance and a technically strong maintenance department. Perform and oversee maintenance engineering activities, including preventive and corrective work orders. Manage and develop plant maintenance programs to ensure minimal downtime. Analyze and solve technical maintenance issues.

Control and coordinate all equipment materials and supplies required for replacement, repair, plant expansion, and improvement projects. Form criteria and performance specifications for facilities and equipment necessary to meet unique operating and safety requirements. Possess in-depth knowledge in maintenance engineering and demonstrate high-level skills with extensive proficiency. Work independently and function as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Complete plant capital projects, including scope development, bidding, submitting capital requests for internal
review, coordination of project completion, and budget cost adherence
* Perform replacement analysis of equipment considering space costs, depreciation, service life, maintenance
costs, and advising production manager of information and recommend appropriate actions
* Direct and control plans and specifications for outside contracting work, including bidding process, priority, and
corporate purchasing and management approvals
* Recommend expense or capital projects which are necessary or will improve operational efficiency
* Manage and develop plant maintenance programs to ensure minimal downtime. Analyze and solve technical
maintenance issues
* Oversee assigned DFA and contract staff. Develop training programs to address developmental needs
* Develop short- and long-term planning, objectives, programs, goals, and department budget and cost controls
* Coordinate maintenance and capital related material needs, including receipt of materials and services and
payment approval. Oversee maintenance part and supply inventories, including purchasing activities, supply
shortages, and report generation
* Maintain effective preventative maintenance programs for facility, electrical distribution, plant utility systems,
architecture, process instrumentation, and all production machinery and equipment through assigned staff and
outside contractors to support sustained plant operations and efficiency
* Ensure all plant environmental policies and procedures reflect current DFA guidelines and regulatory
requirements and proper reporting is completed
* Perform routine environmental plant audits and maintain environmental and Department of Transportation
(DOT) facility records. Prepare and submit all facility regulatory environmental permit renewal applications
* Perform periodic wastewater testing and reporting for by-products discharge. Maintain inventory of all facility
waste streams, ensure appropriate disposal, and implement waste reduction solutions
* Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate
regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
* Undergraduate degree in engineering or related curriculum or technical training in related mechanical or
electrical studies (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
* 5 to 8 years of engineering, maintenance, or related experience in a food manufacturing environment that
includes team or project leadership experience, environmental compliance experience, PLC programming, and
capital project and budget management experience
* Certification and/or License - may be required during course of employment


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
* Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations regarding waste, air, wastewater, land
application, and storm water
* Knowledge of safety related issues, including regulation compliance
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems
* Skill in critical thinking, analysis, mathematical calculations, and statistical evaluations
* Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
* Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork
* Able to take appropriate steps to find solutions to complex problems
* Able to handle challenging or conflict situations with tact and professionalism
* Able to multi-task
* Able to adapt and manage to change effectively
* Must be able to read, write and speak English
