ChristianaCare is recruiting for a Phlebotomy Technician to work full time in the Union Hospital Outpatient Lab, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; every 3rd Saturday 8am -12pm; no holidays.
As a Phlebotomy Technician, you will perform venipunctures and capillary punctures to obtain blood for testing.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs successful venipuncture, micro-procedure and bleeding times using established procedures on adult and pediatric patients
Performs successful heel sticks, using established procedures, on neonates and infants
Follows established procedures for proper identification of patients, greeting all patients in a courteous manner introducing self and calling patient by name
Properly labels and processes patient specimens prior to arrival in clinical laboratory
Proper transport of specimens to the laboratory
Interprets physician's oral and written test orders in an accurate manner
Follows-up with physician's office to clarify any confusion or question, including resolution of any medical necessity and/or diagnosis issues
Performs proper specimen management and documents all variances appropriately
Demonstrates effective knowledge and care of all technology related to blood collection duties and job functions
Does inventory and stocks supplies and ensuring proper expiration dates
Handles all telephone requests in a courteous manner documenting the call
Maintains daily log sheets
Rotates working schedule as needed within UHCC
Attends departmental staff and inservice meetings, as required, and reviews meeting minutes if not in attendance
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma required
Phlebotomy experience preferred, including phlebotomy procedures, venipuncture, finger and heel sticks, venous and capillary blood gases
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of infection control techniques and procedures
Skill in the use of phlebotomy technical devices
