Supplier Quality Engineer

The Supplier Quality Engineer will...

  • Build relationships with the supply base to communicate issues and coordinate resolutions efficiently and effectively.
  • Visiting supplier's facilities and observing the manufacturing environment to review and assess their procedures. Performing regular quality control audits to ensure vendors continue to work in compliance to company requirements and industry standards.
  • Coordinating the review of incoming products and services from vendors to ensure compliance to quality requirements.
  • Developing test requirements and assessments on products to identify quality issues. Facilitate root cause and corrective action investigations to address systemic supplier quality issues.
  • Analyze supplier data and defect trends, including supplier deviations, to identify areas of improvement and risk mitigation opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain Supplier Quality Manual and Quality Clauses to be flowed down to supply base.
  • Develop Key Process Indicators (KPIs) for supplier quality processes to drive improvement within organizational.
  • Participate in supplier risk assessments. Develop, standardize, and maintain internal supplier quality Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Assist in the review of qualification of new suppliers, including visits/audits, and qualification data packages.
  • Participate and contribute to customer and third-party audits to address supplier quality processes.
  • Proactively improve process and product quality at Carpenter. Work with a "continuous improvement" mindset within the framework of outlined methods in the most efficient manner so that accurate and precise results will be consistently obtained and suggest possible modifications of procedures to improve the quality.
  • Follow and promote the use of safe working practices. Sets an example for other Quality personnel to follow related to safety, policies, and procedures.
  • May be expected to lead small sub-teams.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements for the Supplier Quality Engineer...

  • Four-year college degree required. Preferably in metallurgical, engineering, chemistry, or another related field. Certification as a Supplier Quality Professional preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant experience within manufacturing, preferably as a quality engineer within the aerospace industry.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001, IATF16949, ISO13485, AS9100 and/or Nadcap standards, with preference for the aerospace standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of auditing principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of problem-solving or root cause analysis/corrective action processes.
  • Excellent statistical analysis and quality assurance skills.
  • Lean/Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects or teams, including coordination of resources outside of own area. Forecasts and plans resource requirements for projects or teams.
  • Ability to interpret internal/external business issues and recommend best practices in own function.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time. Including international travel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and take a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
  • Customer Focused with the ability to read, understand, and interpret specifications, drawings, and purchase orders.
