Job Overview:

The primary purpose of the Scheduler/Patient Liaison position is to ensure that the scheduling of surgeries, pre-admission testing and diagnostic testing of patients at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey is performed in an organized, efficient and timely manner.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or general education degree GED.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills are required to communicate with clinical, administrative and other personnel.
  • Superior interpersonal skills are important in maintaining a sound public image in dealing with patients, families, and referring physicians.
  • Excellent critical thinking and attention to detail are required.
  • Must be computer-literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the principles of guest relations and be able to maintain a professional demeanor and customer service orientation under busy and stressful situations.

Preferred:

  • Three years of clerical experience, including at least one year, that involved scheduling of surgical cases is preferred.
  • Prior experience in the use of a practice management system is preferred.

Scheduling Requirements:

  • 8:30am to 5:00pm
  • Full-time

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures that insurance pre-certification is completed prior to surgery and that all required surgical paperwork is in the operating room according to protocol.
  • Serves as a liaison between the surgical oncologists, hospital operating rooms, radiological staff, Cancer Institute of New Jersey nursing staff, insurance companies and the patient.
  • Contributes to the research mission and participates in performance improvement activities in order to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of services provided.
  • Requires interaction and competency in providing care to patients in all age categories, from neonates through geriatrics and all populations, with an emphasis on patients with cancer.
