Job Description

The South Lab is currently recruiting a Research Assistant to come and join our dynamic lab in the Cancer Biology department with Dr. Andrew South. Dr. South is a molecular biologist studying squamous cell carcinoma, particularly those arising in individuals with genetic predisposition to progressive disease. His experimental approach centers on the use of human primary cells and derived early passage cell lines to understand mechanisms driving tumor initiation and progression.

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a full time Research Assistant who is motivated, organized, detail orientated and willing to learn various molecular biology applications as well as animal colony management. The overall goal of this position would be for the applicant to work closely with our research team in their studies and be able to multi-task work between the animal facility and the main research lab. The ideal candidate should be able to work well independently and in group settings. The main responsibilities would include but are not limited to:

- Mouse colony management

- Animal topical applications (possible IP injections depending on applicants

experience)

- Ear tagging and clipping

- Mouse genotyping for experimental design

- Assist with analyzing and interpreting data

- Molecular biology bench techniques

- Maintain excellent record keeping on all animal and laboratory procedures

- Presents research findings within our lab group meetings

- Potential for isolating primary cells and working with cell culture

- Potential for assisting on projects within the Cancer Genomics amp; Bioinformatics Core

- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Bachelor#39;s required;2+ yearsrsquo; experience or Masterrsquo;s degree, no required experience
