This position supports Plant Manufacturing and Technical Operations while maintaining a strong focus on continual Process Improvement and Optimization. Applies fundamental knowledge of basic principles, theories and concepts of industry standards and practices to design, automate, modify, or develop facilities, testing, machines, equipment or processes used in processing or manufacturing products.

Job Summary

The Systems Engineer is a member of the Engineering Team and is responsible for Maintaining, Improving and Implementing MES in the LHV plant. The incumbent plans, supports and coordinates MES activities in plant operations, provides direct support to maintenance teams, and performs PLC and HMI configuration/programming. Additionally, this role is responsible for machine data collection, visualization, and backend reporting of manufacturing operations. Additional duties may include Process Engineering and Controls. This role is based in the Lehigh Valley location.

Essential Functions

* Contributes to the development of procedures and practices to encourage employees to work safely in an environmentally responsible manner to achieve quality results at acceptable cost levels.

* Participates in safety, health and environmental continuous improvement initiatives.

* Monitors project expenses.

* Participates on plant maintenance/improvement of MES structure.

* Coordinates internal and external service providers and suppliers for projects and maintenance of systems.

* Enables and ensures continuous and reliable software operations.

* Plans, coordinates, and executes system upgrades.

* Configures and customizes applications, performs small programming work.

* Provides mechanical and electrical technical support for the site.

* Troubleshoots data and network communication issues with machine PLC's and HMIs.

* Provides support to the process and plant engineering personnel.

* Maintains plant engineering standards and compliance.

* Inspects and troubleshoots equipment as needed, including electrical, controls and drives.

* Manages critical spare parts relative to MES, E&I, across the site.

* PLC and HMI programming and troubleshooting.

* Electrical controls design and troubleshooting.

* Up to 10% travel may be required.

* Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, consideration will also be given for Information Management focus.

* Experience supporting applications in a manufacturing environment (MES or similar).

* 3 + years' experience in a leadership role in manufacturing/operations or maintenance environment preferred.

Additional Qualifications

* Exposure to MES technologies, data collection, historian applications, visualization, SCADA, workflow, database applications, interface with SAP systems.

* Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs

* Programming experience with Microsoft Visual Studio a plus

* Programming experience with SQL

* Demonstrated ability in planning and organizing.

* Must possess a balance of technical, human relations and conceptual skills required to achieve results through working with others.

* Requires prior knowledge of process safety and environmental compliance in a manufacturing environment.

* Excellent communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.

* Ability to interact with personnel at all organizational levels.

* Proven expertise in PLC troubleshooting, Controls and mechanical areas.

* Competent PC (MS Office and Windows) computer skills.

Physical Demands

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk or hear.

* The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

* Requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc.

* Work is inside and the typical noise level is loud.

* Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
