The Innovation and Development Division (IDD) drives the innovation strategy for the Hubs and Operations, and contributes to the Group's transformation. It is responsible for imagining, developing and incubating new solutions until they are brought to market, particularly when it comes to offers with a high technological content (including digital and IT). IDD gathers more than 3,000 employees from 70 nationalities at 60 sites.

The Analysis & Fine Chemistry group in Air Liquide's Delaware Innovation Campus in Newark, Delaware is seeking a talented, collaborator, highly motivated Ph.D researcher to join our multidisciplinary group supporting the development of new chemistries for high-tech industrial applications. This team develops and tunes targeted molecules to suit customers application processes for use in electronics, automotive, aerospace and healthcare industries.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and developing new etching gases for semiconductor applications. The processes will include the plasma and thermal based etching processes. Experience working with plasma etch tools and use of advanced metrology and film characterization is highly desired.

  • Serve as a safety role model; promote a high level of safety awareness; adhere to and support the continuous improvement of all safety practices / procedures.

  • The individual filling this position will be responsible for projects involving Plasma Etching processes, design of new etching gases and process evaluation for semiconductor applications.

  • Build knowledge on etching gas, structure and functional relationship based on plasma process performance.

  • Achieve and coordinate research project objectives and deliverables in timely manner

  • Provide technical leadership and lead projects

  • Promote innovative development of intellectual property

  • Prepare presentation material for internal and external meetings and conferences

  • Develop and sustain new customer/OEM/academic/consortia relationships

  • Develop and support new and alternative technologies

  • Interact with AL global business and marketing teams

  • Interact from time to time on as-need basis with global R&D to: lead and foster customer interactions, participate and present at technical conferences, lead or participate in Industrial partnerships and academic collaborations.

Required

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science with specialization in plasma-based etching methods.

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in Plasma based tools (CCP, ICP) is required; maintenance and troubleshooting is desired.

  • Experience in analytical techniques such as Ellipsometry, FTIR, XRR, XPS, AES, AFM, SIMS, SEM, TEM, EDX, RBS, OES, UV-VIS, QMS and related spectroscopic techniques

  • Collaborative mindset, able to build alliances, persuades others and network internally and externally

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and oral) with an excellent publication track record in conferences and journals

  • Ability to work on a multi-disciplinary and international team

  • Self-motivated individual with ability to define and solve problems in collaboration with AL business partners and external partners and customers.

Preferred

  • 3+ years of industrial experience in plasma etching is strongly preferred with knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes.

  • Knowledge and experience in design of experiments

  • Experience with Atomic layer etching (ALE) is a plus

The Salary rate range for this position in "Delaware" is $104k - $113k
