Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The cardiogenic shock coordinator will have three main categories of responsibilities, including clinical care of patients presenting to TJUH with CS, administration and program building, and research. The primary function of the coordinator is toaugment the capability of the TJUH cardiogenic shock program in effective management and delivery of the highest quality of care to patients presenting with cardiogenic shock. They will alsopromote the TJUH cardiogenic shock network to referring physicians and hospital administrators outside the Jefferson Enterprise, managing relationships across the divisions and in the community. The coordinator will partner with medical, surgical, and nursing staff within the Cardiovascular Service Line to coordinate the care of patients with cardiogenic shock. They will serve as a liaison between the various multidisciplinary components of the Shock Team, including Advanced Heart Failure, Interventional Cardiology, CT Surgery, Cardiac Anesthesia, CVICU, ECMO team, Pulmonology, Palliative Care, and other Consulting Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Have detailed, complete working knowledge about the temporary MCS platforms available, including insertion and management
  • Be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with various disciplines within the Shock team and clinical staff to monitor, evaluate, and improve current Shock processes
  • Be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with various disciplines within the ECMO team and clinical staff to monitor, evaluate, and improve current ECMO processes
  • Round on all patients who are being followed by the ECMO and the shock teams, evaluate their current level of support, and aid in advanced planning for alternative support platforms as needed
  • Identifies opportunities within existing ECMO and cardiogenic shock network partners and other regional hospitals for expansion of network services.
  • Works with the Marketing department to effectively market the TJUH ECMO amp; Cardiogenic Shock Network
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the Hospital.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary MCS discussions
  • Be familiar with current standards of care for ECMO and CS
  • Act as a liason with regional referral centers and hospitals and EMS services, providing education as appropriate
  • Communicate routinely with medical staff and other healthcare team members to establish effective goals and strategies in treatment of the shock patient
  • Maintain the Shock database and interface effectively with the Tufts Cardiogenic Shock Working group, using data to evaluate active TJU clinical practices and target areas for improvement through continuous QI
  • Prepar the cases for quarterly Mamp;M meetings and discussions
  • Initiate research projects utilizing the TJUH CS patients and database
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors Degree in nursing and minimal 5 years cardiovascular nursing experience required.Masterrsquo;s Degree/NP License and ECMO experience preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in cardiovascular nursing
  • Critical care experience preferred
  • ECMO experience preferred
  • ECMO speacialist certification preferredAbility to work with medical staff leadership
  • Technical/information systems experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong networking skills
  • Proficiency with computers

Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.
